Abstract |
INTRODUCTION The study was conducted to investigate the influences of gender, grades, body mass index, and personality traits on physical activity level in adolescents. METHOD Participants were 673 middle school students (352 males, 321 females) from two middle schools in Kangnam-gu, Seoul. Correlation and hierarchical regression analysis were used to examine the interaction effects of independent variables on physical activity in Adolescents. RESULT The most important predictors of adolescents' physical activity in adolescents were gender and grades(R²=0.174, p<.001). Low graders with high trait of agreeableness tended to have the high levels of physical activity, whereas adolescents with low traits of agreeableness tended to have the lower levels of physical activity as their grade up(ΔR²=0.028, p<.05). Male adolescents with low grades and high trait of openness to experience had higher levels of physical activity than males with high grades and low trait of openness, whereas physical activity levels were similar in female adolescents with low grades and high trait of openness in comparison with other females(ΔR²=0.014, p<.05). CONCLUSION These findings indicated that adolescents with high traits of agreeableness and openness to experience actively engage in physical activity. |
