Abstract |
INTRODUCTION This paper was intended to propose basic materials for running by analyzing the running development of elementary school children grades 1-2 and the difference between the running forms of 1st and 2nd students, boys and girls.
METHOD The running behavior of 120 1st grade students(boys:64, girls:56) and 219 2nd grade students(boys:110, girls:109) was taken with video camera. The pictures were classified into three groups (level 1:proficient , level 2: average, level 3: below average) by observational instrument of running form. Also the difference between groups is verified by the value of χ² which was conducted by the SPSS 18.0 program at p=.05. RESULT The running form of the 2nd grade students was more proficient than that of the first grade students in that they ran through the path way(p<.01), extended their leg fully at take-off(p<.01), raised the knee well at the end of the forward leg swing(p<.05), increased the length of the running stride(p<.05), and leaned the trunk slightly forward(p<.05). Boys were more advanced in force propulsion(p<.01), and girls were more advanced in stable landing(p<.01). CONCLUSION As a result of the analysis of running form, at first, the developmental stage of running was divided into various levels as observational particulars, and there were differences between boys and girls, 1st and 2nd grade students, so the teacher should supplement different instruction to student's different levels of running form. Second, 2nd grade students were well-developed. The running form of the boys was formed to run as fast as they could. So the teacher must help the boys injury prevention. The teacher should also help the boys proper coordination of the arms and legs, and the girls to enhance muscle endurance and to practice appropriate running form. This is to overcome developmental differences between boys and girls. |
