Impacts of Regular Qi-Training on Health-Related Fitness, Blood Glucose and Blood Lipids of Elderly People

Abstract

INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of regular Qi- training on the change of elderly people's health-related fitness, blood glucose and blood lipids in an effort to promote the health of the elderly.
METHOD
The subjects in this study were 30 senior citizens. After they were randomly assigned to an experimental group and a control group, the experimental group underwent Qi-training for 12 weeks, five times a week. χ²(Chi-square), t-test, and repeated measure ANOVAs were conducted for statistical analysis.
RESULT
First, Qi(氣) training was effective in the impact on improvement in grip and balance in elderly people's health-related fitness. But there was no special impact on flexibility and agility. Second, Qi(氣) training was effective in the reduction in blood glucose, total cholesterol and neutral lipid and in the increase in HDL-C in elderly people's blood glucose and blood lipids.
CONCLUSION
Elderly people's regular Qi-training had the positive impact on elderly people's health-related fitness. The improvement was found in grip and balance, blood glucose and blood lipids.
